Nahant Victorian Weekend
An Evening in Vienna, A 19th Century Summer Ball
August 10 & 11, 2013
Nahant, Massachusetts
Sponsored by: Vintage Victorian, The Nahant Historical Society and The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers
This year’s theme will be An Evening in Vienna, with a
19th Century Ball Saturday Night,
with live music provided
by Spare Parts. Current plans include a dance workshop (3:00 PM), taught by Ben Bishop, to be held the
day of the ball. A few dances will be taught during the Ball
including the Nahant Quadrilles. Spectators welcome! Sunday’s event will be a period tea and
concert with Spare Parts!
Other Period events will be scheduled throughout the weekend.

Ragtime Ball

Travel back in time when the U.S. entered the Great War by joining us at the
Historic Winsted Elks Lodge, ca. 1912. The hall features a beautiful hardwood dance floor and
original leaded glass windows. Attire of the time period (ca. 1917) encouraged but not required.
Appropriate 21st century clothing is acceptable. Light refreshments will be
served; onsite parking is available. Dance: 8:00-11:00 PM; Doors Open: 7:30 PM; Afternoon Workshop: 2:00-4:00 PM

Dance and Merriment from the Era of Dickens. Much of the program will consist of set dances which will be
taught during the evening. These will include such Victorian favorites as Pop Goes the Weasel, other easy
contradances and simple quadrilles, as well as Sir Roger de Coverly, an English version of the Virginia Reel.
Interspersed with these will be elegant couple dances such as the waltz and polka.

social and peaceful pursuits. Join us for an evening of contra-dances, quadrilles, waltzes and polkas taught and
